The largest country on the Iosian Peninsula, Ios is known for its wealth, the courtly manners of it’s inhabitants, and as a haven for art and artists. And all this is possible due to the massive slave workforce. Four out of five Iosians are slaves with little hope of ever gaining freedom, and many do not even want to. With the majority of the population enslaved, many important functions are taken up by slaves who enforce their will on the lower-ranked slaves. Indeed, many slaves are important people. A king owns his advisers, for instance, who are far more respected than a lowly freeman shopkeeper.
Sadly, this blinds most to the basic degradation that so many of the low-class slaves suffer, forced to work fields and do menial labor with no hope of ever bettering themselves.
