Human society throughout the lands once claimed by Nerath are very similar to that of medieveal Europe. However, no countries exist anymore, with the largest power being that of the city-state. Powerful cities are able to exert control as far as their militia takes it’s swords, usually no more than a few days travel. These cities become ringed by hamlets that provide for grain and produce to the local baron. A city-state’s power can wax or wane dramatically depending on the ability of the local baron.Baronages are often passed down by blood, but the local citizenry often has no compunctions about overthrowing a corrupt or inept baron. The divine right of rule is a concept unheard of in Crucible. The Magisterium has a strong influence in life, and most members of the city can be found in church on Sunday.
